Obituary for Barbara "Bobbie" Hough

Barbara F. “Bobbie” (Foley) Hough, 92, of Uxbridge passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, Feb. 4, 2018. She was the wife of the late Gordon W. Hough, who died in 1999

Barbara was employed as an elementary school teacher for 3 years before becoming a homemaker for her family.

She was born on October 11, 1925 in Evanston, IL, the daughter of the late Ralph J. and Ruth Lorraine (Longman) Foley. She was a graduate of Monticello High School in Godfrey, IL and of the National College of Illinois with a teaching degree.

Barbara was the secretary to the symphony and a volunteer at Merced Hospital in Merced, CA and a volunteer at Berkshire Community Hospital and the Pittsfield Museum in Pittsfiled, MA. She was the president of women’s golf and Republican Party in Pittsfield. Barbara enjoyed every minute spent with her family and friends. She loved to travel the world, especially on various Cruise ships, and play the organ, and she was an avid golfer and bridge player.

She is survived by her son, Preston W. Hough of Cold Springs, CA; two daughters, Claudia J. and her husband Mark Jacobson of Kuna, ID, and Kimberley and her husband Engelbert Burkart of Uxbridge; a brother Charles L. Foley of Allison Park, PA; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a brother, Ralph J. Foley.

A celebration of life will be held at the family’s house in the summer of 2018.
