Obituary for William LaFleur, Jr

– William “Bill” LaFleur, Jr., 81, of Whitinsville passed into his eternal home after a brief illness on Friday, November 16, 2018. He was the beloved husband of Shirley A. (Bosma) LaFleur for 61 years.

Bill worked for the former New England Telephone Company for 32 years, retiring in 1991. He also owned and operated Bill’s Telephone Service for 20 years.

He was born in 1937 in Whitinsville, son of the late William and Elsie (Nordgren) LaFleur and graduated from Northbridge High School, Class of 1955. He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving in the Submarine Corps. as a radioman.

Bill was a lifelong member of the Pleasant St. Christian Reformed Church. His love for the Lord was evident in every aspect of his life. He was active with the church’s music program serving as the choir and men’s chorus director, and singing in the Praise Team and men’s quartet. He served as elder, deacon, on the building committee and was always willing to help out whenever it was needed. He volunteered with World Renew (CRWRC) and Wycliffe Bible Translators. He was an avid supporter of Whitinsville Christian School. He loved spending time with his family, especially on camping trips and holiday get-togethers. He always enjoyed a good round of golf with his friends.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his four daughters, Lani Geselius and her husband Karl of Charlton, Verna Dumas and her husband Leo of Millbury, Deborah Koopman and her husband Randall of Whitinsville and Patricia Finger also of Whitinsville; sisters Joanne Vanden Akker of Whitinsville, Audrey MacKay and husband David of Ontario, Canada, brother, Jeffrey LaFleur and his wife Janice of Uxbridge and sister-in-law, Eleanor Van Houten of Whitinsville; seven grandchildren, Jenny Geselius, Nicole (Dumas) Leveille, Christopher Dumas, Sean Koopman, Shelley (Koopman) Corbin, Matthew and Kelley Finger; and six great-grandchildren, Emma, Ethan, Cole, Camden, Grace and Avery.

Visiting hours will be held on Monday, November 19, 2018 from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Pleasant St. Christian Reformed Church, 25 Cross Street, Whitinsville.

Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 20, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. in the church followed by burial with full Military Honors in Pine Grove Cemetery, Linwood Avenue, Whitinsville.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Whitinsville Christian School, 279 Linwood Avenue, Whitinsville, MA 01588 or to the Building Fund for the Pleasant St. Christian Reformed Church, 25 Cross Street, Whitinsville, MA 01588.
