Obituary for Julia P. Michaelson

Julia Pires Michaelson passed away peacefully at Countryside Nursing Home on Monday November 26th 2018. She is survived by her husband Donald E. Michaelson. Her children Donald Jr. and his wife Terresa, Damon, Jerome and his wife Tracey. She has 4 grandchildren, Tanya, Bryce, Austin and Brayden. She has 3 great grandchildren Krysta, Alexia and Xavier.

She was born in New Bedford MA December 16, 1929 the daughter of the late Joseph and Isabel (Lomba) Pires. Julia attended several universities pursuing excellence in her field of Human Resources. She was the Human Resource, Equal Employment Opportunity Specialist at the onetime computer company Digital Equipment Corporation. DEC, would send her to different company sites to resolve HR Personnel issues. She retired from DEC after 20 years of service before it became part of the Hewlett Packard Corporation.

She loved her Siamese cats and was an accomplished Opera Singer. She danced and sang from an early age and brought many to tears with beautiful singing at well-known operas and recitals. She also sang in churches and at weddings. Her favorite performance was that of Cio-Cio San in the Opera Madame Butterfly. Sara Caldwell founder of the Boston Opera Co. heard Julia sing and was quoted saying "a terrific talent!"

Funeral services will be private, but a celebration of her life will be planned for after the New Year.
