Obituary for June S. Carlson

Mendon - June S. (Larson) Carlson, 87, of Mendon, passed away Tuesday, April 3, 2018 with her family by her side. She was the wife and constant companion for 66 years of Carl R. Carlson who died in 2017.

June was born June 1, 1930 to Hugo and Vera (Warren) Larson and grew up on upper Congress Street in the company of many colorful uncles, aunts, cousins and unannounced visitors. The Larson Family orchard and its beehive of activity remained a strong draw for June and her family throughout the years. June moved to One Bancroft Park, Hopedale in 1955, and it was there she and Carl raised their family until moving to Mendon in 1988.

Upon graduating from Milford High School in 1948, she enrolled at the Katharine Gibbs School. She began working at the former Draper Corporation in 1950, but it was as Secretary to the Principal of the Hopedale Elementary System where she would spend more than 30 years of her working life before retiring in 1993. June and Carl were fortunate to enjoy a long and happy retirement traveling across the United States and Europe, but perhaps their greatest joy was time spent with their grandchildren.

June was confirmed, married and her children baptized at the Swedish Congregational Church on Grant Street and remained a very active member for many years. She loved singing and playing the piano accompanied by the baritone voice of her husband. (It is rumored that she made the drive to White City to see The Sound of Music some 5 or 6 times when it was first released). She had a seemingly endless play list and would break into song upon hearing just a note or a word -- and needed very little encouragement to do so. Her vitality and the twinkle in her blue eyes will be missed.

June is survived by two sons Eric C. and his wife Charlene Carlson of Millville, and Kurt W. Carlson of Greenville, WI; a daughter Kristin C. Wood of Millville; four grandchildren Charlie and Anders Carlson, and Leanna and Katherine Wood; a brother Warren Larson of Lanesboro, MA; her sister Joyce Daubar and her husband Justin of East Lyme, CT; a sister-in-law Lillian Medeiros of Harwinton, CT; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her son-in-law, Stephen Wood.

Visiting hours will be held Sat. April 7, 2018 from 9-10 AM in the Community Covenant Church, 2 West Elm St., Hopkinton followed by a funeral service at 10 AM in the church.

Burial will follow in Hopedale Village Cemetery, Rte. 16, Hopedale.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the BUMA SARGEANT FUNERAL HOME, Milford.
