Bellingham - Margaret A. "Peggy" (Gallagher) Raeke, 73, of Bellingham passed away on Monday, November 23, 2009 in the Milford Geriatric Authority, Milford. She was the wife of Bernard E. Raeke.
Margaret was born in 1936 in Lawrence, the daughter of the late Herbert and Aurelia (LaFreniere) Gallagher, and lived there until attending Catherine Laboure School of Nursing in Dorchester. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from Framingham State College and her Master’s Degree from Worcester State College. Margaret worked for many years at Milford Regional Medical Center, first as a staff nurse and then as the Infection Control Nurse. She also worked as Practice Manager in the Pain Management Service at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, and as an infection control nurse at other area hospitals.
A longtime resident of Bellingham, Margaret was an active member of St. Brendan's Church where she established the Shawl Apostolate and the Widow and Widower’s Group. She continued to help many people as the Parish Nurse. Margaret enjoyed traveling, especially with her family. She was a devoted and loving mother and grandmother.
In addition to her husband of 51 years, she is survived by two daughters, Diane E. and her husband Ken Heilig of North Kingstown, RI and Judy A. Barry of Jamestown, RI; one sister, Lorraine M. Covino of Shrewsbury; four beloved grandchildren, Ethan and Grace Heilig and Connor and Jack Barry; several nephews and nieces including Paul F. and his wife Anne Covino, and Brian M. and his wife Sandy Covino, their families and numerous cousins.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 28, 2009 at 9:00 AM at the BUMA-SARGEANT FUNERAL HOME, 42 Congress St., Milford, 01757 (www.bumafuneralhome.com) followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM in St. Brendan's Church, 384 Hartford Ave., Bellingham. Burial will be private. Visiting hours will be Fri. Nov. 27, 2009 from 6-8 PM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dana Farber Cancer Center, c/o Development Office, 14 Prospect St. Milford, MA 01757.
