Bellingham – John W. “Jack” Fisher, 87, of Suffolk St. died Thurs. June 24, 2010 at his home. He was the husband of Helen L. (Smith) Sweet Fisher and the late Marilyn J. (Lindquist) Fisher who died in 1969.
Mr. Fisher was employed as a manager for Western Union offices in Milford, Attleboro and Framingham for 38 years. He also worked for the U. S. Press Corps for Western Union in news dissemination on Presidential visits in New England until his retirement in 1984.
He was born September 8, 1922 in Cranston, RI, son of the late Henry J. and Olive M. (Ross) Fisher and was a graduate of East Bridgewater High School, Class of 1940.
Mr. Fisher served in the U.S. Navy during WWII.
He was a trustee and member of the Pine Street Baptist Church in Milford. Jack was also a member of the Bellingham VFW, the Bellingham Lions, and the Bellingham Senior Center. He enjoyed reading.
In addition to his wife, Helen, he is survived by one son David R. and his wife Felicia Fisher of Chesapeake, VA, one daughter Paula M. Fisher of Bellingham, 5 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, 1 great great granddaughter and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a stepson, Woodrow Sweet Jr., one brother and one sister.
Funeral services, with full military honors, will be held Tuesday June 29, 2010 at 10 AM in the Pine Street Baptist Church, 41 Pine St., Milford, 01757.
Interment will follow in Union Cemetery, Rte. 140, Bellingham, 02019.
Visiting hours will be held Monday June 28, 2010 from 5-8 PM in the BUMA-SARGEANT FUNERAL HOME, 42 Congress St., Milford, 01757.
