William Bangma
Uxbridge - William Bangma, 85, of Uxbridge went to be with the Lord on Monday, May 3, 2010.
He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Gladys (DeYoung) Bangma.. He leaves three sons; Leonard W. Bangma and his wife Kathy of Uxbridge, Donald J. Bangma and his wife Michele of Warren, IN., and Dale E. Bangma and his wife Kimberley of Uxbridge. He leaves two daughters; Karen G. Boer and her husband Mark of DeMotte, IN and Donna L. Kibbe of Worcester. He also leaves 17 grandchildren; Katelyn Bangma, Michael Bangma, Timothy Bangma, Jeff (Jennifer) Boer, Erin (Jon) Kilroy, Sara Boer, Gregory Boer, Brianne Bangma, Christina Bangma, Stephen Bangma, Eric Bangma, Adam Kibbe, Benjamin Kibbe, Matthew Kibbe, Justin Bangma, Keith Bangma and Philip Bangma and 6 great grandchildren; Luke Bangma, Kali Laroque, Chloe Boer, Garrett Boer, Lydia Kilroy and Jack Kilroy. Mr. Bangma is also survived by one brother, Louis Bangma of Uxbridge. He was pre-deceased by his brother, Raymond Bangma who died April 2010.
Mr. Bangma was born Oct. 21, 1924 the son of the late Louis and Gelske (Visser) Bangma. He was born and raised and lived all of his 85 years in the same home in Uxbridge. He graduated from Whitinsville Christian School and Uxbridge High School. He served in the US Army during World War II.
Mr. Bangma worked at Bangma’s Dairy farm for many, many years. First he worked for his father, Louis and then partnered with his brother, Louis. Later, he worked with his sons, Leonard and Donald. He continued to help them by peddling milk until the age of 76. He enjoyed peddling milk door-to-door to his many milk customers throughout Mendon and Milford for 55 years. Mr. Bangma loved to watch baseball games and he was a Detroit Tigers Fan.
Mr. Bangma was a life-long member of the Pleasant Street Christian Reformed Church where he served as Deacon and Elder and sang in the Men’s Chorus. He was a Trombonist in the band “The Top Hats” many years ago. Mr. Bangma had also served on the Whitinsville Christian School Board. He sang in a quartet with his brother Louis and two uncles singing throughout the Blackstone Valley.
Funeral services with Full Military Honors will be Fri. May 7, 2010 at 11 AM in the Pleasant Street Christian Reformed Church, 25 Cross St., Whitinsville, 01588.
Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Linwood Ave.., Whitinsville.
Calling hours will be Thursday evening, May 6, 2010 from 6-8 PM in the BUMA FUNERAL HOME, 480 Church St. Whitinsville, 01588.
