Hopedale – Thelma C. (Shea) Lapworth Shaw, 100, of Hopedale, died Friday, March 5, 2010 in Beaumont Nursing & Rehab Ctr., Northbridge. She was the wife of the late Honorable Gordon A. Shaw who died in 2002 and Burleigh Wood Lapworth who died in 1970.
She was born Oct. 7, 1909 in Brewer, ME the daughter of the late Daniel and Birdie (Ellsworth) Shea and was a graduate of Bangor High School and the University of Maine, Class of 1930.
Mrs. Lapworth Shaw was an Athletic Coach for many years at Hopedale High School coaching girl’s softball, field hockey and basketball teams.
Mrs. Lapworth Shaw was a member of the Hopedale Unitarian Church where she had served as Superintendent of Sunday School and was active with the church’s Women’s Alliance. She was also an active member of the former Milford Community Players and the Hopedale Women’s Club.
She is survived by two daughters; Janet Grant of Mendon and Sandra Sundin of Holden, a step-daughter Charlene Corey of Stow, a half-brother Paul Wight of Sun City, FL, 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and 15 great great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by one son Ronald Lapworth who died in 2002.
A memorial service will be held Saturday March 27, 2010 at 11 AM in the Hopedale Unitarian Church, 65 Hopedale St., Hopedale.
There are no public visiting hours. There will be a private burial service in Hopedale Village Cemetery, Hopedale.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be to the Dana-Farber Cancer Care Center at Milford Regional Med. Ctr., c/o Dev. Office, 14 Prospect St., Milford, MA 01757 or to the Hopedale Unitarian Church, 65 Hopedale St., Hopedale, MA 01747.
