Uxbridge - William R. Mulligan, 78, of Uxbridge, passed away Tues. Feb. 9, 2010 in Milford Regional Hospital, Milford, He was the husband of Joan F. (DeYoung) Mulligan.
A resident of Uxbridge since 1987, he had previously lived 23 years in Franklin and prior to that in Illinois and Arizona. He had owned an operated Lakeway Liquors in Mendon for 5 years and prior to that had worked for Dennison Mfg. and Allstate Insurance both in Framingham.
He was born in Milford and raised in Uxbridge the son of the late William and Florence (Graham) Mulligan and attended Uxbridge schools. He was a graduate of St. Mary’s Central Catholic High School in Milford in 1949 and was a graduate of Providence College in 1953.
He was an avid classic car enthusiast and member of The Early Ford V-8 Club, the Vintage Chevrolet Club of America, and the Thunderbird Sport Roadster Society. He enjoyed traveling to car shows with his friends and refurbishing his own antique cars with his sons.
He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Army and was a member of the Uxbridge VFW Post. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and former member of the West Meadow Fish and Game Club, Whitinsville. He enjoyed his Summer home on Martha’s Vineyard and spending time with his children and grandchildren. Mr. and Mrs. Mulligan were to observe their 50th wedding anniversary in the Fall.
In addition to his wife Joan, he is survived by his children Jane F. Sheridan of Milford, Mark J. and his wife Denise Mulligan of Sutton, Michael P. and his wife Annette Mulligan of Sandwich, and W. Robert Mulligan, Jr. of Uxbridge; a sister Ann and her husband Werner Hagl of Uxbridge; 6 grandchildren including Gabrielle Sheridan, Layla Sheridan, Alexandra Mulligan, Julianna Mulligan, Ryan Mulligan and Amanda Mulligan.
Funeral services will be held Sat. Feb. 13, 2010 from the funeral home followed by a Mass of the Resurrection at 10 AM in St. Mary’s Church, Mendon St., Rte. 16, Uxbridge. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Visiting hours will be Fri. Feb. 12 from 5 – 8 PM in BUMA FUNERAL HOME, 101 N. Main St., Rte. 122, Uxbridge.
