Donald C. Adams
Mendon – Donald C. Adams, 90, of North Ave. and formerly of Uxbridge died Sun. Jan. 3, 2010 at St. Camillus Health Center, Whitinsville. He was the husband of Jean A. (Beal) Adams. His first wife of 43 years, Martha L. (Seagrave) Adams, died in 1983.
Mr. Adams worked in quality control for the Management Systems dept. at St. Vincent Hospital in Worcester as a trouble shooter for 17 years, retiring in 1985. Previously, he worked at the Rhode Island Hospital in Providence and had also worked as a division supervisor in the quality control dept. of the former Whitin Machine Works in Whitinsville for 20 years.
Mr. Adams was born in Woonsocket, RI on Oct. 24, 1919, son of the late Nathan A. and Ida (Gould) Adams and had been a resident of Uxbridge for over 50 years before moving to Mendon in 1998. Mr. Adams graduated from Uxbridge High School in 1936 and later attended Eastern Nazarene College in Quincy.
Mr. Adams was a founding member of the Nazarene Church in Woonsocket, RI and a longtime active member of the Church of the Nazarene in Uxbridge. He was also a skilled carpenter who built his own home on Providence Rd. in Uxbridge and enjoyed gardening.
Mr. & Mrs. Adams observed their 25th wedding anniversary on Sept. 9, 2009.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons; Paul I. Adams of Williamsburg, VA. and Mark L. Adams of Charlotte, NC, three daughters; Marian E. Pickering of Eure, NC, Esther J. Reilly of Charlotte, NC and Jane E. Husted of Williamsburg, VA. , two brothers; Lawrence T. Adams of Whitinsville and John P. Adams of Uxbridge, 21 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter, Grace Elaine Adams who died in 1952, one son Earl B. Adams who died in 1982 and two brothers, Rev. Nathan A. Adams Jr. who died in 1980 and Homer G. Adams who died in 2008.
Funeral services will be Friday Jan. 8, 2010 at 2 PM in the Church of the Nazarene, Rte. 16, Uxbridge.
Interment will follow in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Mendon St., Uxbridge.
Visiting hours will be Thurs. Jan. 7, 2010 from 3-6 PM in the BUMA FUNERAL HOME, 480 Church St. Whitinsville, MA 01588.
